Digia announces Qt Commercial 4.6.4 release

The following is a guest post written by Tukka Turunen, Director R&D, Qt Commercial, Digia Plc

Digia has today released a new version of Qt Commercial. The version 4.6.4 further improves the maturity of the 4.6 branch and brings increased stability and several quality improvements for desktop and embedded users, including a total of 122 bug fixes and support for Windows 7.

When deploying a business critical solution, it is not always possible to change to the latest version of Qt. With the 4.6.4 release of Qt Commercial Digia wants to address the needs of customers who want to stay with Qt 4.6, but want to have bugs related to their use cases fixed.

Some customers also need to run older Qt versions with the latest operating systems. Qt Commercial 4.6.4 is tested and officially supported also on Windows 7. Digia has verified for the release to work on the previously supported platforms, and is now including Windows 7 as an official primary platform.

The Qt Commercial 4.6.4 release contains total of 122 improvements and bug fixes that address several important issues in 4.6.3, for example in the QtCore, QtGui and QtNetwork modules. The release contains improvements to performance and stability, as well as security. We have also introduced fixes to tools, including Qt Designer and qmake.

The focus area of this release is the desktop platforms. We are introducing many fixes specifically aimed for the Mac, Windows, and Linux/X11 platforms – in addition to fixes that benefit all platforms.

Qt Commercial 4.6.4 contains:

-        Overall 122 improvements and bug fixes to version 4.6.3

-        17 key fixes for Windows

-        17 key fixes for Mac

-        9 key fixes for X11/Linux

-        41 key multi-platform fixes

-        Several other improvements and smaller fixes

Naturally Qt Commercial 4.6.4 maintains binary compatibility with the 4.6 series, as well as backwards binary compatibility to 4.5 series.

Detailed list of the fixes and improvements can be found in the .changes file of the new release.

The new release is now available via the Qt Commercial Customer portal, at http://qt.digia.com/customerportal/. Digia is also contributing the Qt Commercial 4.6.4 release to Nokia for possible future availability to Qt open-source users. The decision on whether the release is made available to Qt open-source users is a decision for Nokia, not Digia, and we will let them comment on their intentions here later.
