Community Sponsorship May 2011

A bit over a week ago we sent four projects that had been submitted to the new community sponsorship program the happy message - "yes, your project got sponsorship". The projects and communities that were successful are:

1. Akademy-es 2011 in Spain. Akademy-es is a KDE developer event focusing on contributors and users. It is organized by KDE España (KDE Spain), a sister association of the KDE e.V. The conference was held in Catalunya at Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya and Sant Marc de Sarrià school. The sponsorship was used for covering costs during the event.

2. The MeeGo Coding Competition 2011. The Maemo community ran this competition last year with great success, extending it to MeeGo this year. The main purpose of the competition this year is to attract developers to start creating applications for Maemo and MeeGo using Qt. The Competition started April 1th, and will run until June 30th. We are sponsoring by contributing 10 Nokia N900 devices for the competition.

3. EuroPython 2011 is the official European conference about the Python programming language. It is aimed at everyone in the Python community, of all skill levels, both users and programmers. More than 500 attendees are expected with professionals, companies and students coming from all around the Europe. At the conference they will meet to learn, collaborate and grow together. Qt is one of several top sponsors of the conference. It will also be training in Developing cutting edge applications with PyQt and Developing Desktop and mobile apps with PySide.

4. We are also sponsoring Sébastien Frickers' participation at Qt Contributors' Summit.. He is the founder and lead developer of TestCocoon Code Coverage Tool. Sébastien will present how to use TestCocoon for verifying application code written with Qt, also making a technical paper showing how it works.

The projects sponsored are good examples of community projects  - conferences, competitions or tools which can useful for the Qt developer community. We have more sponsorship to give, and are ready to look at more applications.
